Following the positive response received from you, our Old Girls, to our recent London Event survey, we are delighted to be able to launch our Old Girls' London Dinner.
The first formal event we have run in the Capital City will take place on Friday 15 November, in the charming surroundings of Cafe Below, located in the ancient, medieval crypt of St Mary-le-Bow Church. We are delighted to announce that Deputy Heads Mr Eggleston and Mrs Tingle (nee Kenmir), will be joining us.
The Church was second only to St Paul's Cathedral in importance among London churches during the middle ages. It is famed for its tradition, that only someone born within the sound of Bow Bells can be considered a true Cockney and also the nursery rhyme 'Oranges and Lemons', which includes a reference to the bells - "I do not know say the great bells of Bow". It is also thought that it was the sound of the Bow Bells that persuaded Dick Whittington to return to London to make his fortune.
Located beneath the Bow Bells, Cafe Below are dedicated to all things London, sourcing their produce as locally as possible. They boast a menu of British and European dishes, all made on site, including the bread and salad dressings.
The three course dinner in this atmospheric venue will cost £45, to include a welcome drink and a glass of wine; discounted to just £30 for those Old Girls who are still students.
This is a great opportunity, not just to catch up with friends, but to network and have a lovely evening in the capital City. Please join us for what we hope will become an annual event for our Old Girls.
