Old Girls' London Dinner- Photos and video

The OD London Dinner 2021 was held at the Cafe Below, Cheapside London on 12 November.  The vaulted ceiling and stone pillars provided a dramatic environment for our reunion.  The food was superb, the waiting staff attentive and the company and chatter was lovely. 

We were joined by staff members  Mr David Eggleston; Mrs Jude Tingle and Mrs Ladds, with Mr Eggleston's speech thanking all of our Old Girls who have volunteered to give back to school by volunteering their time to talk at careers lectures, events or getting involved in the 'Instagram Live' interviews.

Most decades from the 1960s were represented, but by far the year that was most represented was 1963/4 where we had 5 Old Girls present- Enid Barron (nee Taylor); Christina Thomas (nee Etchell); Jill Hamblin (nee Barnes; Jennifer Dudney (nee Stinton) and Gwendolyn Riddle (nee Jewitt).  Baroness Usha Prashar also attended and continues to be a great advocate and support to the School.

Instagram Live Interviews

In September 2020, Mr Eggleston introduced his Instagram Live interviews on IGTV.  It's been a real bonus for the girls to continue to be able to hear from you and because it is online, geography is no boundary! Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to be interviewed live over Instagram; you have all been superb.  

The Instagram photowall serves to illustrate the breadth and diversity of what our Old Girls have done so far- with much more to come!  Your back stories, successes and achievements are both informative and inspirational. 

Your support and commitment to these programmes is invaluable and imparting your knowledge and sharing your individual journeys across all our Giving Back Programmes, helps our girls to see their possibilities as limitless and go out into the world with a 'I can do this' attitude.

Thank you to all our Instagram Interviewees and those of you who have already volunteered to take part in the programme- the calendar is full until March 2022!

Heidi Allen (OG 1993) Delivers the Hepworth Lecture

Watch her lecture HERE. Heidi returned to WGHS to deliver the Hepworth Lecture to our 6^th Formers.  The Hepworth Lecture series delivers inspirational talks which are rich and varied in content to our 6th Formers.   Heidi talked about making the most of life, going about it fearlessly and changing direction if you think that is the right thing to do.

Heidi is chair of CHS Group; Strategic Adviser to the RSPCA; a Trustee at Feeding Britain; a Hughes Hall Fellow and is the former MP for Cambridge.  She shared her wide ranging experiences about being true to yourself, the benefits of being focused on discipline and hard work as well as being unconstrained by conventions whilst collaborating with, learning from and helping others.

Gemma Sykes (OG 2002) Delivers the Gem Lecture

Old Girl and linguist Gemma, returned to WGHS to deliver the Gem Lecture to our year 10s and 11s, where she talked about her diplomatic career.  Gemma is currently Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Quito, Ecuador.
We loved that she brought her WGHS French Prize award with her!
